Speech Proposal: Ian's Pizza

Rhetoric 1030 Speech proposal
Joey Basche
Speech on a local company

I chose Ian’s pizza as my local company for a number of reasons. Ian’s is a long time Madison, WI favorite and a popular late night destination for kids of all ages, looking for a cheap and tasty treat. Ian’s has a very high appeal to college kids though and I think it would be interesting to see what they do to draw the students in, regardless of the time of day or weather.

Ian’s advertisements use pathos in many ways. In one example I found, they clearly stated in simple letters, “Freshman fifteen sold here”. This is a bold statement. Many freshman students are very self conscious about the freshman fifteen, and when they see that a restaurant wants to give them their freshman fifteen, one would think that they would stray away from their products. If anything, Ian’s draws more students in with ads like these. Students seem to forget about he greasy calories they are taking in and just focus on the taste and the good times that are associated with the restaurant.

Ian’s also uses social media as a huge outlet for their advertisements and promotions. For instance, on twitter they have a weekly give away where they have the customer retweet a promotion and follow their account for a chance to win a free pizza. This not only promotes the company through the retweet, but it also gains the support of the customer when they follow Ian’s on twitter. Ian’s can give up a free pizza because they gain business through giving away their products. It will breakeven if not show a gain in the long run

They way Ian’s is able to stay on top and take in a good amount of income every week is because they are a very new age company. They know their target company are people in their late teens and early twenties so they advertise what that age group want to see. It’s a very smart business technique and I will continue to go there whenever I go home for a weekend or for a badger game because nothing can beat a hot slice of Ian’s pizza.
